If I wasn’t so in love with these tournament style documentaries I might be asking ‘do they really need to make a documentary about grocery bagging?’. Clearly the answer is YES THEY DO, as a trailer has popped up online for ‘Ready, Set, Bag!’, a documentary focusing on a national grocery bagging competition held each year in Las Vegas, Nevada. The film looks like it follows the standard tournament formula, focusing on a few favoured contestants and following them into the finals (wow, that’s a lot of F’s). I love the concept of average working class folks thrust into the spotlight for a chance to showcase their otherwise unappreciated talents. I hope to leave this film with a newfound perspective on bagging. After all, at one point in my life I worked at Toys R Us and I can sincerely say there is an art to merchandising a giant wall of board games.
Head over to the Ready, Set, Bag! official website for more information on how you can see the film!
