A trailer has arrived online for Tom DiCillo’s When You’re Strange, a documentary about Jim Morrison and The Doors. The movie premiered at Sundance last year and will finally be getting a limited theatrical release this April. Narrated by Johnny Depp, it was created mostly from archival footage shot between 1965 and the death of Morrison in 1971.

It may seem a bit weird that this is the first feature-length documentary on a band as controversial and influential as The Doors, but for many people Oliver Stone’s 1991 biopic covered the material already. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek was never particularly happy with some of the liberties that Stone took, however, and this film is supposed to set the record straight to an extent. When You’re Strange hits theatres in select cities on April 9th, while the DVD is expected to hit stores sometime in July.
