After narrating a handful of documentaries including the Hunter S. Thompson doc Gonzo and the upcoming Doors film When You’re Strange, it looks like Johnny Depp is feeling the itch to direct one of his own. And who better for him to tackle as a subject than the inspiration for his ever popular Jack Sparrow character in the Pirates of the Caribbean series: Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards?
Reports about the documentary first surfaced on a Serbian website, and were later confirmed by Variety. Not much is known about the film, but Depp says that his editor is “already working on kilometers of archive footage and footage of his concerts”. Richards also has an autobiography on the way that is due to be released this fall. Depp’s only feature-length directing credit to date was the 1997 fictional film The Brave, but he did also do a weird little short film about Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, which you can see embedded after the jump.
