Living the Legacy: The Untold Story of the Milton Hershey School

I’ve always been partial towards documentaries about the trials and tribulations of grade school/high school life and ‘Living the Legacy: The Untold Story of the Milton Hershey School’ seems to fit the bill. The film focuses on the Milton Hershey School, a school devoted to the well being of underprivileged children. Based on the clip above, it looks like a prime opportunity for some family drama and inspirational rising-above-adversity action. I was made aware of this film through an email from jumP, a New York based editorial boutique that recently took on the daunting project. From their website:

“jumP’s Michael Saia and William Zitser, in close collaboration with Academy Award-winning Director Cynthia Wade, recently completed editing Living the Legacy: The Untold Story of the Milton Hershey School, a stirring documentary recording the ongoing educational efforts of the central Pennsylvania institution.

Saia and Zitser faced the formidable task of editing hours of film into a concise and powerful 73:27 finished product while capturing the scope of an institution with 100 years of history and more than 1,500 students, and simultaneously showcasing a fifth-grade pupil and her family, beneficiaries of the school’s mission to serve underprivileged children.”

A daunting task indeed. Check out the clip above and share your thoughts in the comments section!
