Bananas!* Trailer

There have been plenty of documentaries over the years attacking corporations and their questionable methods of doing business, and most of the time, the corporations seem content to let the filmmakers air their grievances and then hopefully just fade away. Most corporations are smart enough to realize that responding to the claims would only create more publicity, and perhaps even add credibility to the accusations being made. The folks over at Dole, however, have chosen the exact opposite reaction to Fredrik Gertten’s film Bananas!*.

The film follows big shot lawyer Juan Dominguez as he takes Dole to court for 10,000 Nicaraguan banana workers who claim to be suffering from sterility due to Dole’s use of a banned pesticide called Nemagon. Dole tried to stop the film from being shown at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and when it screened anyway, they decided to sue Gertten for defamation. With both sides continuing to argue over the validity of the film, Bananas!* is certainly gaining a lot more attention as a result. In a way, it’s too bad that the documentary is already complete, because this controversy surrounding the film is almost more interesting than the court case itself. At any rate, a trailer for the film has arrived online, and you can watch it below. For more information, visit the film’s official website.
