As a full blown Blu Ray convert, it’s great to see documentary releases hitting the shelves. Last year we got Encounters at the End of the World and Standard Operating Procedure, among others. This summer, Sony Pictures is giving Ari Folman’s Waltz With Bashir the full HD treatment, and I think it will be worth every pixel. The tech specs are as follows:
BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.85:1) and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround tracks in Hebrew and English.
Doesn’t mean much to me, but I am pretty pumped about the Hebrew track. I’m also excited to re-watch this one in full 1080p, seeing as my first experience was a crappy download. Would’ve liked to have seen it in theatres, but when you live in a small town, you gotta do what you gotta do. Bonus features include audio commentary with director Ari Folman, a “Making-of” featurette, “Behind the Scenes” animatics, and a Q&A. Waltz With Bashir hits shelves June 23rd!

One of th best film of last year, this will look gorgeous on my big screen. Now I just need to get a PS3 or something.
Hmm. I saw the Hebrew version in theaters. If they get decent voice actors I suppose English could work – much like the English version of Grave of the Fireflies.
