As some of you may know, tomorrow night Albert Maysles and Antonio Ferrera’s ‘The Gate’s’ will premiere on HBO. The film chronicle’s the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s temporary New York City art installment called…The Gates! I’m sure you remember; they put over seven thousand orange gates along Central Park’s walkways, much to the joy of most and the dismay of some. As is the usual case with Christo’s large temporary art projects, they tend to polarize folks. Either way, I’ve seen the film and it’s just as good as The Maysles previous Christo collaborations, but here’s the exciting news; The Documentary Blog will be giving away three signed art prints of Christo’s Gates! That’s right, all you have to do is email me at jcheel@cogeco.ca and let me know which of Christo’s art installations is your favourite. Names will be drawn randomly and prizes sent out as soon as the contest is over! I’d say we’ll give it about a week. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at the previously mentioned address. Also, stay tuned for my review of ‘The Gates’ coming up sometime tomorrow! Big thanks to Joanna at Deep Focus!

One of the worst documentaries I’ve ever seen. Myself and hundreds of others were a huge part of this project and without the workers it would never have been completed! They did a horrible job portraying what it was all about and the lives of the people who worked their butts off in the freezing cold for $5.85 an hour for over a month.
I don’t mean to offend you, but I am not interested in the people who worked on setting up the gates.
I think the vision is the art not the work itself. i havent seen the documentary but some flix from the work effort maby scould be showed even if its not importent for the art aspect of it..
and for the compition i loved the islands!!! mail me if i win:) just go to http://www.documentarycorner.com and click contact!
and for other documentary lovers and makers.. join the forum!!:)
I am not a christo fan in the slightest. I live near central park and an artist of sorts specializing in glassblowing, so I have a certain level of appreciation for the hard work and planning that goes into installation work. however, these things were nothing more than eyesores to me. they completely retarded the spirit of the park and the city itself.
ps: i absolutely love this blog. just came across it today while looking for news on when Boy Interrupted will be airing on HBO.
Thanks for stopping by Daniel!
Don’t let the installations turn you off of the films. Even if you don’t like the art, they are definitely an interesting watch.
