  Of all of the horror films I took in throughout my childhood in the 80's, Troll and Troll 2 somehow escaped me. I recall seeing the VHS boxes on the local video store shelves, along with Ghoulies and Critters which I DID see, and i'd always been curious. Lately I've heard of many people getting together and having Troll/Troll 2 marathons, but I've never really been one for watching bad movies with an ironic intent.   I remember when I first caught the trailer for the Ryan Gosling film 'Lars and the Real Girl', I thought the subject matter could be a little too quirky to take seriously. The film, produced by Channel Five in the UK, tells the story of a lonely man who tries to pass of a 'Real Doll' as his girlfriend. Ridiculous! Well, thanks to Sean (someone who's constantly searching the net for stories of synthetic love) 'Guys and Dolls' is a documentary that makes 'Lars and the Real Girl' look like 'When Harry Met Sally'.   Here's a cool looking doc in the vein of Errol Morris' 'Fast, Cheap & Out of Control' (maybe only in that it focuses on four people connected by a major theme). 'Protagonist', directed by Jessica Yu, seems to take as many liberties in regards to documentary technique as her previous film, 'In the Realms of the Unreal'. The trailer treats us to some intriguing interview footage, combined with some Indian (or African?) inspired animation and a creepy puppet show. Definitely piqued my interest.
