I remember when I first caught the trailer for the Ryan Gosling film ‘Lars and the Real Girl’, I thought the subject matter could be a little too quirky to take seriously. The film, produced by Channel Five in the UK, tells the story of a lonely man who tries to pass of a ‘Real Doll’ as his girlfriend. Ridiculous! Well, thanks to Sean (someone who’s constantly searching the net for stories of synthetic love) ‘Guys and Dolls’ is a documentary that makes ‘Lars and the Real Girl’ look like ‘When Harry Met Sally’. Now I haven’t had a chance to watch this thing yet (i’m guessing it’s NSFW) but I had heard of this some time ago. Here’s a synopsis (from The DigiGuide, via The Current Outlook):
Documentary about the men who use sophisticated life-size dolls for sexual satisfaction and more – such as dates, affection and lifelong companionship. Featuring a young American man who gives his doll daily massages in the home he shares with his disapproving Mum and Dad; a British man who takes his doll out on day trips to the coast where she watches him hang- glide; and two Americans who live with multiple dolls, one of whom shares his eight synthetic lovers with his human girlfriend.
Sounds like some good clean fun! Seriously, this is pretty strange and makes me feel much better about the Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan 25th Anniversary U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 16-inch Starship I just bought. You can check out the entire film below thanks to Google Video. I know i’m going to as soon as I get home and finish assembling my starship and placing it in my display case.
Are Real Doll creating the option for people to become happy without human interaction or are they trying to provide SOMETHING for those who are unhappy already?

This is what I love about docs – getting to see a side of society I wouldn’t normally get to see.
I watched this the other night. Wow, it’s quite a topic. I appreciated how well they selected their subjects. You had the whole range of personality types — the guys who stereotypically seem to be losers and can’t find women to love them; the guys that appear to have it together but sadly never find someone, and as a result seem to be bitter; the guys who only want the hassle-free sex; and the guy who appears to have a genuine loving relationship with a doll.
Just fascinating. The only thing I missed seeing was input from professionals, like psychiatrists, doctors, etc.

I didn’t think I’d have the patience to watch the entire 45 min. piece, but very interesting. I just finished watching this and I truly believe that if these men are considering that these dolls hold the same companionship power as an actual human being, full of warmth and life, they should be mentally examined.
I mean, one would argue that it is perfectly safe for an individual to use the dolls because it’s not hurting anyone and I agree with that. But, they have clearly taken it way beyond past the next level. As adults, they should be aware/admittent to their problems, and if they aren’t, that’s like a crazy person not thinking their crazy.

I believe we are entering into a new era. First real dolls ( the out side coverage) and secondly robots (the inside coverage) to give pleasure and satisfaction to mankind. Evidenty, this is just around the corner, but I think that the real doll could probably have a therapeutic value and not just to be used for sexual realise. one common demonenater with these guys is that they are ugly, i’m a straight male and i’m comforatable saying that.

so if these men would rather drop an easy 5,000 on a doll than deal with you at all from the begining point of introducing themselves then are not being selfish, they are being logical.

i say they some of these guys are a little crazy, but the ones who just have a pricey masterbaition toy are smarter than guys like me who choose to deal with a real woman and the upper hand conventional society gives them.
