‘Summercamp!’ Now Available In Full at AOL True Stories

camp_poster_sml.jpgAs awesome as AOL True Stories is, I must admit i’ve never really sat down to watch a full movie on the internet. Especially one that i’ve really wanted to see. However, this might be a first, as i’ve really been looking forward to Bradley Beesley and Sarah Price’s film ‘Summercamp!’. Both have previously been attatched to some great projects; Brad Beesley has given us ‘Okie Noodling’ and the great Flaming Lips documentary ‘The Fearless Freaks’, while Sarah Price has worked on ‘The Yes Men’, Michael Moore’s ‘The Big One’, and one of my favourite documentaries of all time, ‘American Movie’. Summercamp! seemed to fly under the radar, perhaps overshadowed by another documentary with the ‘camp’ in its name. But the combined talent of Beesley and Price is a sure ticket for me. Here’s the synopsis of the film:

Summercamp! follows the day-to-day drama of 90 kids let loose in the woods at Swift Nature Camp in northern Wisconsin. Camp is a place where kids can be kids, where their home and school lives momentarily fade into the background as they go through the highs and lows of adolescent rituals: sing-alongs, talent shows, homesickness, counselor mutiny–and first love. Amidst group activities, showy arguments, and secret conversations, filmmakers Bradley Beesley and Sarah Price submerge themselves into this curious camp subculture, capturing a diverse array of adolescents from all economic and social backgrounds. Through the non-calloused eyes of kids, Summercamp! captures the raw emotional experiences that will endure with them for the rest of their lives.

As much as i hate kids, I will admit they make great subjects for some amazing documentaries. (See my ‘Five Films: Kids’ feature for some good recommendations. P.S. I don’t really HATE kids.) Summercamp! looks to be some fun-loving-feel-good viewing that fans of ‘Mad Hot Ballroom’, ‘Spellbound’, and ‘Rock School’ will love. So head over to AOL True Stories and check out Summercamp! in full, FOR FREE!!!
