The Independents – The Art of Selling Records in the Digital Age

00_theindependents_nxne_m.jpgHere’s something cool for those folks living in the Toronto area. An old college friend of mine, Josh McGuirk, directed a cool short documentary called ‘The Independents’ at the same time I was shooting my own doc. What resulted was a cool short film that gives us a look inside the world of independent record stores. Here’s a synopsis:

The Independents’ gives viewers a glimpse into the independent music community in Toronto. Viewers are brought into the world of legendary record stores Sam the Record Man, Rotate This, and Play de Record. C’MON’s Ian Blurton, Exclaim! Editor James Keast and a host of other music industry players contribute to an earnest account of the changing realities of selling records in the digital age.

I’ve just recieved the good news that ‘The Independents’ will be screening at this years NXNE festival, and I highly recommend you check it out if you get the chance.Josh is a talented guy and his film is a must see for any indie music fans interested in the struggle faced by independent record labels and record stores. The film screens Friday June 8th @ 1pm at the National Film Board Theater, so make sure you check it out!
