Vice Magazine has launched a new website called VBS TV, featuring short videos that seem to centre mostly on travel.   Our good friend John Campea has posted an interesting letter over at The Movie Blog. For those of you who caught this years Oscars, you may recall Jerry Seinfeld's presentation of the award for Best Documentary Feature. To be honest, I don't recall anything he said because me and my friends at Film Junk were doing a live Oscar podcast and I was a little distracted. Apparently, Seinfeld made some remarks concerning the documentary nominees that didn't sit well with some folks, mainly documentary filmmakers. His reference to the nominees as being 'incredibly depressing' didn't seem to garner the laughs ...

  There's just something about watching kids learn to play rock music that's really charming. I was a huge fan of Richard Linklater's School of Rock, and I really enjoyed the documentary that followed, Rock School. Now comes 'Girls Rock', an idea that's been done before, but will still entertain no doubt. The film is set at The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, a non-profit organization that 'encourages the artistic and individual talents of girls and young women ages 8-18, and to empower them with tools for self-reliance as a means to enhance and affirm positive self-esteem.'   While i'm on the theme of wrestling, here's an interesting doc to be screened at this years Hot Docs Film Festival. 'Super Amigo's' follows five mexican wrestlers as they battle super villians in the ring by day, and fight against social injustices at night. With names like Fray Tormenta, Super Gay, Super Barrio, Super Ecologista and Super Animal, you know these guys mean business. Sort of a Nacho Libre meets The Three Amigos, but real!   Hollywood's attack on religion continues. Not that I mind. With James Cameron's recent announcement that he (and the archeoligists and scientists who actually did all of the work) may have found Jesus' bones, (which although interesting, will most likely be remember along side Geraldo's opening of Al Capone's vault) it seems that religious philosophers and Biblical scholars are on the defense.
