Koyaanisqatsi Reference in Grand Theft Auto 4 Trailer

Who’da thunk it? The first trailer for the much anticipated ‘Grand Theft Auto 4′ video game has hit the web and much to my suprise, contained a direct reference to director Godfrey Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi’s cityscape moment. The soundtrack even provides a ‘sound-a-like’ version of Philip Glass’ score! I guess we can thank the March of the Penguins Nintendo DS game for trailblazing this mixture of documentary and video game. Thanks to them, we will now be able to kill hookers and score cocaine whilst appreciating obscure references to minimalist documentaries with underlying social commentaries!
