Magnolia Pictures and Charlie Sheen Get Behind ‘Loose Change’

0305911-lead-lg.jpgWow. I have to admit that this is an unexpected piece of news. I’ve mentioned before on this site that i’m a 9/11 nut. I could watch pretty much anything on the topic of the September 11th terrorist attacks and remain interested. Out of all of the conspiracy documentaries circulating around the cyber universe, Loose Change is probably the most controversial and the most popular. Dylan Avery put the film together after scrapping his plans to shoot a fictional account of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Through his research, he became convinced that 9/11 was an inside job, and thus Loose Change was born. And reborn. And reborn again. Yes, the film has undergone several ‘editions’ due to ongoing investigative reports. Personally, I think it’s just an example of the kind of innacuracies that can ultimately alienate viewers. The overall tone of the film is aggressively stand-off-ish, and ignores any other opinions except its own. As a film, it’s put together alright, but the narration and music is fucking horrible. That’s just my opinion.

Cinematical has just posted about a possible distribution deal with Magnolia Pictures. According to The New York Post, the studio is interested in distributing the latest edition of the doc, Loose Change: Final Cut, with one major (or minor?) change. That horrible narrartion will be replaced by the soothing sounds of one of the most famous 9/11 conspiracy theorists in the world. No, not Ed Begley Jr., but none other than Charlie Sheen! Some may remember his appearance on the Alex Jones radio show in which he expresses his concern regarding the governments involvement in the terrorist attacks. Well it looks like he’s decided to lend his name to the film, adding the kind of credibility that only the star of Hot Shots Part Duex could bring to this project. Mark Cuban, owner of Magnolia Pictures, had this to say:

“We are having discussions about distributing the existing video with Charlie’s involvement as a narrator, not in making a new feature. We are also looking for productions with an opposing viewpoint. We like controversial subjects, but we are agnostic to which side the controversy comes from.”

As much as i’m interested in this topic, I simply can’t believe that this internet video is getting the kind of release that Magnolia Pictures has planned. Sure, the information is interesting…but the presentation is way too one sided and immature. What do you guys think? Are you willing to shell out the cash for a video you can see for free on the internet? Does Loose Change deserve the attention it has recieved?
