For those of you waiting patiently for Errol Morris’s next film project, S.O.P.: Standard Operating Procedure, here’s a litte quick fix for those of you going through ‘interro-tron’ withdrawal. Yahoo! Movies reports that Morris is just about wrapped on a short Oscar opening for this years ceremonies. In the past, Morris has been hired by the Academy for a similar project, interviewing some well known film fans about their love of the movies, (He had considered turning these interviews into a feature film, mainly focusing on Donald Trump’s discussion about his love of Citizen Kane) earning him an Emmy nomination for his efforts. This time around Morris takes on the cream of the crop, this years Oscar nominees. Sounds pretty interesting. According to the latest report, Morris is cutting it pretty close, having done 20 MORE inteviews this past Tuesday, giving him exactly five days to edit together the four minute piece. From Yahoo! Movies:
“I never prepare a list of questions, ever,” he says. “I try not to think about it. I have been known occasionally to go to the movies. You could look at this as my own personal way to meet all the nominees. It was enjoyable, actually.” What was not enjoyable was trying to fit all 130 subjects into four minutes in a way that makes sense. (On the last film, Morris caught hell from some of the luminaries he left out, like U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky.) Morris says Ziskin gave him a much tougher task this go-round. She wanted him to try to interview as many of this year’s nominees as he could.
This should be pretty cool. It will be interesting to see how this all edits together, and how the time is shared between the bigger draws (Scorsese) and some of the more minor nominees. I guess this gives me one reason to check out this Sunday’s Oscar broadcast. For those of you who want to see more of Morris’ commercial work, head over to his website. He’s done tons of great work and really pushes the creative boundaries in his advertising work.

Do you know who the woman was at the end of the Oscar Nom short that led into the applause? She had her back turned and then…applause. I feel stupid for not recognizing her.
Hmmm, i don’t recall. If it pops up on YouTube i’ll have a look and see if I can figure it out.
You can rewatch the video over at http://www.oscars.com.
I think it was the Spanish lady who was nominated for Supporting Actress for Babel.
Thank! Couldn’t figure out why the burst of applause unless it just coincided with the ending.
