With Jesus Camp having already hit store shelves (good luck finding it), DVD details for the second of the two Oscar nominated, religious themed documentaries have been announced. Amy Berg’s ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ will hit stores May 8th through Lionsgate Home Entertainment. As you may or may not know, the film looks at the sexual exploits of Father Oliver O’Grady, a member of the Catholic Church who admits to having molested multiple children since 1973. Here’s the synopsis:
“Over the years, O’Grady successfully exploited mothers and fathers in order to get to their children. His penchant for sexual mayhem was as essential to him as breathing, and internal Church documents prove that since 1973, he raped and sodomized with the full knowledge of his Catholic superiors. Remarkably, Deliver Us From Evil filmmaker Amy Berg tracked down Father O’Grady and persuaded him to participate in the making of her film. O’Grady’s account of his years in various Northern California parishes is chilling and he tells his story without remorse or self-reflection.”
The DVD will feature commentary by filmmakers Amy Berg and Matthew Cooke, additional scenes, and interviews with the filmmakers. It’s too bad the DVD release didn’t manage to hit BEFORE the Oscars, but life is just like that sometimes. Hopefully this release will be a little easier to track down then Magnolia Pictures seemingly limited distribution of Jesus Camp.
