I haven’t really been keeping up with all of the Sundance business currently ripping up the blog-o-sphere. Maybe the day will come where I get the opportunity to attend and report on these events first hand, but until then i’ll just have to keep my eyes and ears open for the stories that stand out for me. Luckily Sean has come across yet another interesting documentary recently acquired by THINKFilm at the festival. ‘In the Shadow of the Moon’ retells the story of the moon missions through remastered NASA archival footage and interviews with the only men to have set foot on another world. THINKFilm will share the rights with The Discovery Channel, who ‘will have an equity interest in North American theatrical distribution, branding rights and exclusive North American television rights to the film.’ Co-Director Daving Sington (sharing the position with Christopher Riley) is understandbly excited to be working with THINKFilm, “We share the same vision for this film and I am confident that we will be able to bring it to a very wide audience in North America so that everyone can share the magic of Apollo.” MovieWeb brings us this:
In the Shadow of the Moon features exclusive NASA film footage including astonishing space shots re-mastered from the original film rolls to reveal the Apollo program with a visual clarity and impact it has never had before. The mute 16mm rolls shot in Mission Control have been painstakingly lip-synced with the 16-track audio recordings of the mission controllers’ voice loop to re-unite the pictures and sound of many historic moments for the first time, lending a striking immediacy to many dramatic scenes.
Boy am I excited by the sounds of this. I’m a huge fan of ‘For All Mankind’, (especially Brian Eno’s amazing score) and I think this will be a great companion piece to that classic film. However, none of this answers the question that’s on ALL of our minds…did man REALLY land on the moon? Have a look at the video below and judge for yourself!

This is very exciting! I can only hope that these directors show intelligence and class and put “An Der Schönen blauen Donau” in there with the mute reels.
