I swear the Film Junk video podcast is taking over my life. Now that i’ve finished this week’s episode, I can shift my attention back to The Documentary Blog. I guess the biggest news story this week would be the Oscar nominations. I’m not a huge follower of the awards shows, (that’s what they all say) but sometimes it’s fun to check in on the nominees to see what suprises you might find. As for the documentary category, it was pretty cut and dry. Here’s the list:
Documentary Feature
Deliver Us From Evil
An Inconvenient Truth
Iraq in Fragments
Jesus Camp
My Country, My Country
Documentary Short
The Blood Of Yingzhou District
Recycled Life
Rehearsing a Dream
Two Hands
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any of the documentary shorts. As for the features, seems like a pretty straightforward list, aside for maybe My Country, My Country. What do you guys think? Any films you would’ve liked to have seen nominated? Any films that were nominated that you don’t feel deserved the recognition?

I haven’t seen “My Country, My Country” but I’m surprised that “Jesus Camp” didn’t make the list. Plus as much as I liked “Shut Up & Sing” I’m OK with it not making the cut.
I thought Jonestown was a better movie than Incovenient Truth, but I guess the subject matter is alot more up Oscar’s alley. Plus it has the star power.
Haven’t seen any of the other movies. None of them had a theatrical release, and I doubt many of them will be released on DVD here.
I had hoped to see Scranton’s “War Tapes” make the cut (…yet I haven’t screened all the Oscar nominees). Hope all is well w/ you.
To anyone who’s posted comments and wondered where they went, i’m currently having problems with regular comments being flagged as spam. If you don’t see a comment of yours appear, you can just email me at jcheel@sympatico.ca, and i’ll try and regularily check the spam for mistaken posts.
