An upcoming documentary by a pair of French journalists is bound to turn some heads when it airs early next year. Bin Laden: The Failings of a Manhunt questions the commitment of the U.S. government to finding and eliminating Osama Bin Laden while troops were in Afghanistan. According to directors Emmanuel Razavi and Eric de Lavarene, an anonymous French soldier claims that a snipers had Bin Laden in their sights on two separate occasions but were never given an order to shoot. Apparently it took over 2 hours to reach a U.S. officer who could authorize it.
I have to admit, I’ve always found it puzzling that the most advanced army in the world could have trouble locating Bin Laden (especially when they managed to find Saddam Hussein without too much trouble). Still, I question whether anyone needs to see an entire movie on the topic. I suppose it’s unclear at the moment if the doc is a feature-length film or merely a TV special of some sort. The documentary is expected to air on a currently unspecified cable channel in March.

Why would they ask for authorization if he is wanted Dead or Alive… I think that is where the key of the discussion should be directed towards. If in fact that actually happened. I agree with you this should be a 30 min at the most.

Alot of people were puzzled as to how the most advanced army in the world could not defeat a bunch of poorly armed, poorly organized jungledwellers in Vietnam.
It’s hard. Especially when you have to abide by the laws of the international community. Which they fucking have to.

Laws of the International Community? Are you kidding me? Since when does the USA care about International Laws? Was it when we pulled out of the International Court?
My bad, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is fine example of how we respect international law…not to mention the secret torture prisions we have scattered in Iraq.
Quit your crying and take the shot French Foreign Legion for fucks sake. I’m sure the American People would forgive you. If not the world.

Whenever you can, you will bend the rules. I will give you that.
But the hammer does fall when you cross the line. Like in Abu Ghraib, right?

Why would you wait for an order?
What are they gonna do, fire you?
Even if the gov. killed me afterward, I would never turn my back on that opportunity!
