Like all political documentaries that seem to get any attention, Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth is about to meet its match in the form of a counterpoint documentary called An Inconvenient Truth… or Convenient Fiction?. The man behind this new movie is Dr. Steven Hayward of the American Enterprise Institute, who has been busy delivering his own talks on global warming that, strangely enough, do not actually dispute the existence of global warming. Rather, Hayward only takes issue with a few of the ideas that Gore put forth in his presentation (in particular, the scary stuff about the polar ice caps melting and the global catastrophe that would ensue).
Why is it that people cannot simply debate and discuss the content of a documentary, and instead they must try to create their own movie to combat it? In this case, it seems silly to make a whole movie just to pick apart a few small parts of Gore’s argument. You may remember that Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 was also followed by a movie called Fahrenhype 9/11, and Robert Greenwald’s Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price inspired the response doc Why Wal-Mart Works: And Why that Drives Some People C-r-a-z-y. Does anyone ever actually watch these rebuttals? They just seem like a cheap way for someone to make a name for themselves by piggybacking off the success of others.

these reactionary rebuttals are funny, in the sense that it makes one ask why they didnt go out there and put out their view on the situation first, why someone else has to say something before they’ll speak…
its pretty easy to think many of these people are only rebutting because the other side made enough of a convincing case for them to finally feel threatened after years of just hoping the public is stupid.
Since the prevailing liberal media will only promote liberal films like Gore’s, rebuttal films are the only avenue open to documentary filmmakers with a different viewpoint. As to how many people they reach, probably not many. But the liberal media becomes very offended when any nonliberal idea is promulgated, no matter how limited the audience.
I make it a point to see films espousing all opinions. However, liberals I know go to great lengths to avoid views contrary to their own, especially when it comes to global warming, the official dogma of liberalism.
I thought sodomy-tinged socialism was the official dogma of liberalism. Get off your high horse and stop talking like a Fox News robot, Munro.
By nitpicking specific details, this and similar documentaries (though not necessarily the ones cited) attempt to obscure the broader issue.
In “F-9/11,” Moore was actually wrong about the reasons that Bin Ladan’s relatives were evacuated from the US when all other flights were grounded. That doesn’t mean that his broader thesis is incorrect.
