Werner Herzog’s ‘Last Words’

lastwords1.jpgIn light of my recent review of the amazing DVD collection ‘Werner Herzog: DVD Edition – Documentaries and Shorts’, i’ve found one of the many great short films included in this definitive box set posted in its entirety on YouTube. I don’t know the entire story behind ‘Last Words’, but it seems to be a sort of experimental mix of fiction and non-fiction, with an unusual storyline told by real people under the direction and guidance of Werner Herzog. A man living alone on a deserted island is re-introduced to society after being discovered by two cops who repeat the same lines of dialogue to the point of absurdity. This film is a great example of Herzog’s use of fresh images and his understated yet wonderful sense of humour. Check it out for yourself and then read my review of ‘Werner Herzog: DVD Edition – Documentaries and Shorts’.
