John Hughes Documentary In The Works, Fuller Wets Hydabed After Drinking Full Can of Pepsi

ferris.jpgCinematical has reported that a documentary film about the early films of John Hughes is currently in the works. ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’ is apparently a look at the portrayal of teenagers on film, making an arguement that films of the 80′s more accurately represented the awkward transitional period in which we all got spit on and called fat, or took part in spitting on others and calling THEM fat. Here’s a snippet from the synopsis:

“On one hand, this film is a balanced and nostalgic look at how the highschool movies made by John Hughes and his contemporaries (people like Allan Moyle, Cameron Crowe) captured and inspired the ideals of a generation…and continue to do so. On the other hand, it will compare and contrast his films and characters to those that exist today. Is there a filmmaker making movies of that quality today?”

Hmmm…I don’t know if the “teen” films that are popular today fall into the same category as the early films of John Hughes. I’m going to assume that movies like American Pie and Van Wylder will represent the modern teen films in comparison to…let’s say The Breakfast Club representing the past. First off, I think American Pie is more of a modern day sex comedy. Something more comparable to Porky’s or Meatballs. As far as the more thoughtful modern teen films, I think there’s some great ones. Election? Rushmore? Welcome to the Doll House? Anyone? Bueller? I don’t know, I guess i’ll have to wait and see what sort of comparison this film is trying to make. Apparently director Matt Austin is going to attempt to convince John Hughes to take part in the film by making an extremely rare on camera interview. If he pulls it off, I ask Matt to pass one question on to John…what the fuck was up with Home Alone 3? Seriously. Anyways, head over to the films official website for more info. Hopefully the film will give a balanced comparison of Hughe’s ‘Baby’s Day Out’ as compared to more contemporary tales of baby’s on the loose.
