Tony Kaye (Yes, that’s him to the right), the stylish yet modest director/cinematographer (quoted as saying “I consider myself the greatest craftsman /director /imagemaker on this planet,”) of the usually over-praised (in my opinion) American History X has apparently been keeping busy shooting a documentary film for the past 12 years. “Lake of Fire” is a two and a half hour opus centering on that timeless yet tired debate…ABORTION: lame or awesome? Man, first racism, now abortion. This guy watches too much Degrassi. There doesn’t seem to be much information floating around, but I have come across some positive reviews that claim there is still much to be told in the ongoing pro-life/pro-choice battle. I just hope that the issue isn’t treated in the same “After School Special” nature that Kaye’s American History X dealt with racism. One thing we can count on is a nice looking film, shot entirely in black and white with Kaye’s background as a cinematographer. What do you guys think? Is this beating a dead horse? Is there really enough new information to sustain a two and a half hour film on this topic? All i can do is pray that Kaye treats the material with more respect than I did during my grade 10 English debate. I was pro-choice by the way.

He should have called the movie “Abortion: Lame or awesome” because that is a fucking bitching title.
I happen to really like American History X, but I’m pretty sure I’ve read a couple of places that Tony Kaye would never direct a movie again after AHX, because Edward Norton took over the editing of the movie. Maybe he just meant studio films.
I don’t know. I don’t give a shit about abortion. People who are ‘pro-life’ disgust me, and I have no interest in them.
Did you call your 10th grade paper “Abortion: Lame or awesome”??
Debate, not paper. I’m a runner not a reader.
Unfortunately I didn’t. Although I think the idea of giving a debate a title is an entertaining idea in itself.
Well, there’s nothing going on around here I guess, so I’m gonna ask you something that’s a little relevant… I guess
But how did you think American History X was like an after school special?
I saw LAKE OF FIRE at the Toronto Int’l Film Festival in September and was totally overwhelmed. It is one of the best documentaries, if not one of the five best, of all time. It’s a massive achievement! It will definitely be the film of record on the subject of abortion – nothing else comes near. It’s a briliiant, brillant film!!!!
It interests me that someone would find pro-life people disgusting. As an atheist, I have always been uncomfortable with abortion because I find it difficult to draw a line when life starts. I find pro-abortion people arrogant in their insistence that they know when life starts. Pro-choice people like the above commentator appear to be religious zealots who refuse to consider any alternative point of view and who despise those who attempt to protect life while defending those who butcher and dismember unborn babies for a living. The fact that the self-appointed enlightened classes joyfully defend the brutal killing of unborn children as they defend their little cats and dogs in the name of PETA is shocking to the intellect and an example of the moral degeneration of our society. 45 million unborn children have been slaughtered. Heck, even Hillary Clinton thinks that is a tragedy.
