No stranger to documentary film, Spike Lee has spent the last year filming When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. Lee’s latest documentary began as a 2-hour film with a budget of $1 million but quickly doubled with the backing of HBO. The now 4-hour documentary is set to debut on HBO later this month.
As the title indicates, the film will be segmented into 4 parts, the first documents the arrival of the storm, followed by the response, the struggle of the community, and finally the ongoing recovery effort.
When the Levees Broke will air on HBO. Acts I and II premiere Monday, August 21 at 9pm (ET/PT), followed by Acts III and IV on Tuesday, August 22 at 9pm. The 4-hour documentary will air in its entirety on the anniversary of the disaster, Tuesday, Aug. 29.
