Well it looks like our friends in the UK are getting a week long tribute to David and Albert Maysles thanks to the BBC. Storyville on the BBC Four will be broadcasting a selection of some of the Maysles Brothers finest films including Salesman, Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens and the lesser known short film Meet Marlon Brando. Here’s what the site has to say:
“Albert and David Maysles are the pioneering filmmaking team behind a string of influential and entertaining documentaries. This season includes a new film looking back on their career and a selection of their classic documentaries.”
The new retrospective film is called ‘Albert Maysles: The Poetic Eye’ and seems to be an interview with the surviving brother, Albert Maysles. I’m personally a huge fan of all of the films being shown, but I haven’t had a chance to see Meet Marlon Brando. Luckily those of us who weren’t born by chance on that side of the world can check out a clip of both Meet Marlon Brando and Grey Gardens over at the BBC website. Maysles Week began on Sunday and runs until…Wednesday August 9th? I guess British weeks are only four days long. Crazy Brits.
