  We all know that documentary films are not pure truth, nor do they claim to be. Sure, they shoot for the closest thing they can get to being truthful, but throughout the course of filming and editing, storytelling becomes priority. When a camera is pointed at somebody, they automatically adjust to the situation, possibly acting differently or saying things that they wouldn't normally say if the camera wasn't there.   Welcome to The Documentary Blog's first feature! I thought i'd start things off with five documentary films that I personally recommend. These films are essential viewing and pretty easy to find on the internet. This is only the tip of the iceberg of course, but it's a start. 1.   On his 2005 album Late Registration, Kanye West wrote a song called "Diamonds From Sierra Leone", about the civil war in West Africa and the conflict over the Sierra Leone diamond mines.   I recently had the pleasure of sitting through Cannibal Holocaust, the world famous, nauseatingly sadistic, 1980 Italian exploitation 'masterpiece'. The tagline for the movie...'The Most Contreversial Film You'll Ever See'. With multiple scenes of simulated rape and REAL animal mutilations, I could only imagine what rating this film would've gotten if it had ever been submitted to the MPAA.   Last month I posted on Film Junk about an upcoming IFC documentary called Rank. Although the subject of bull riding is not something I would necessarily be interested in, it is directed by John Hyams who previously did the film The Smashing Machine about UFC fighter Mark Kerr. The Smashing Machine may have been among the most powerful documentaries I have ever seen, and now Hyams is focusing on another equally macho and physically devastating sport.   In lieu of Oliver Stone's upcoming 9/11 film 'World Trade Centre', I thought i'd post about an independent documentary that's been circulating around the internet for a while now. 'Loose Change' is a film that poses the questions many haven't even dared to consider asking...was 9/11 a set up? And more importantly...was the GOVERNMENT behind it?? Yes, it's a little sensational.
