It may sound like a subject that is slightly less than scintillating, but I for one hadn’t really stopped to think about where our coffee comes from. Sure we all joke about how addicted to it we are here in North America, but what goes on behind the scenes to get us our daily “fix”? Black Gold is a documentary that examines the crisis happening in Ethiopia, where some of the best coffee in the world is produced. Directors Marc and Nick Francis say that they wanted to create a political documentary that would affect the viewer mainly through observation, without being overly polemic. The movie has been playing on the festival circuit, but will open in a few select theatres in Canada this month. You can check out a trailer and more info at the official site, linked below. Your coffee will never taste the same again!
