A new documentary film festival has popped up over in Britian, called appropriately enough, the Britdoc Festival. The timing couldn’t be any better. With a gradual rise in popularity due to some heavy hitting box office successes (Super Size Me, Fahrenheit 9/11), documentary films are not only being properly recognized, but are also experiencing a broadening in subject matter which may be more appealing to general audiences. A couple of films competing in the festival stood out for me; ‘The Bridge’, a documentary on the unusual number of suicides jumpers that are drawn to San Fransisco’s Golden Gate Bridge; ‘Darkon‘, a personal favourite about a group of LARP’ers (live action role playing); ‘The War Tapes’, a film we reported on earlier this month; plus many, many more. For further listing and information, you can visit the official BritDoc website at here. The festival closes July 28th. Thanks to Leigh from I Spit On Your Movie for the heads up on this one.
